Aaliyah’s Appeal celebrates premmie powerhouse

website-story.jpgAsh and Matt Weyell believe in miracles. When their daughter Aaliyah was born premature via emergency c-section in January 2021, they had to.

Aaliyah recently celebrated her 1st birthday in spectacular style with an army of friends and family. The path to 1 however wasn’t without its challenges.

Following her premature birth Aaliyah would spend 2 weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

“NICU was a rollercoaster of highs and lows and something I hope to never have to experience again,” Ash reflects.

“Aaliyah has overcome so many obstacles, like hip dysplasia and food sensitivities, but always with a smile. She just decided she needed to come 5 weeks early.”

As part of Aaliyah’s Birthday Appeal, family, friends and work colleagues have raise more than $2500 to support WIRF’s pioneering research into preterm birth prevention. A raffle within Matt’s work is set to raise the fundraising total even further.

“Knowing that Aaliyah, our family, and so many that have supported this Appeal, are directly contributing to a future where no baby is born too soon is a great source of pride for all involved.”

The community-based fundraising efforts of families like the Weyell’s form a critical part of enabling WIRF’s research programs and our ability to innovate and respond to major health problems.
