WIRF is one of Australia's leading organisations that is dedicated to improving the health of women and infants.

A message from our Chief Executive

3_Deb-Portughes.jpgWhat motivates us as a community to keep striving for a future where no Australian baby is born too soon?

It's a common goal that unites all of us, and the support of people like yourself is making a difference in how we understand and find solutions to this major complication of pregnancy.

Six years ago we launched our world-first program designed to strategically lower the rate of preterm birth across our population.

The considerable success of this program was celebrated by the scientific community and the families of WA alike. This work would go onto inform the national approach to preventing early birth through the establishment of the Australian Preterm Birth Prevention Alliance.

Fast forward to May 2021, and the announcement of Federal funding to support WIRF and the expansion of the Alliance’s national education and outreach program was another cause for great celebration.

This program has already been highly effective in several of our states and territories but there is much more to be done.

Our job is now to use this funding to implement this highly effective program across the country, but also importantly, to secure more funds through philanthropic sources to ensure we amplify its positive impact for all Australian families.

To those that have so generously donated to WIRF this End of Financial Year, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I hope you are as proud as we are to know that Australia is now leading the world in preterm birth prevention, and it does so because of the work our scientific leader, Professor John Newnham AM, and WIRF's team of leading researchers, continue to spearhead.

If you would like to join this amazing community of people and support WIRF’s research and programs, please donate before 30 June 2021 to claim your tax deductible receipt.

Thank you again for your incredible support, it is greatly appreciated. We cannot do what we do without your help.

Warmest regards,

Deb
