A highly anticipated inclusion to Western Australia’s calendar of events has celebrated the fighting spirit of Western Australia’s youngest residents this World Prematurity Day.

White Collar Boxing WA’s Fight Night #10 ‘Fight Like a Premmie’ featured a line-up of amateur fighters competing  to raise much needed funds for the Women and Infants Research Foundation and Tiny Sparks WA as part of the marquee event held at Crown Pyramid on 17 November.

Each year more than 15 million babies are born preterm worldwide. In WA alone, almost 3000 babies are born too soon each year.

Perth father of premature twin boys, Premo Jacniacki, said watching his sons fight for life was one of the biggest challenges he and his wife Victoria had ever faced.

“During their time in the neonatal unit at King Edward Memorial Hospital, Vincent and Victor were on breathing support, they required countless medical procedures, blood transfusions and surgery,” Premo said.

“There were days when we feared we would not be able to make it through this. But then there were better days that gave us hope. Our boys were fighting so hard, so we couldn’t give up.”

Encouraged by the twins’ strength, determination and fight for life, Premo transformed himself into a boxer to raise much needed funds for the two WA charities close to his heart.

WIRF and Tiny Sparks WA are extremely thankful to be the nominated charities of the event which has raised more than $7000 to support the critical work of each organisation.
