Governor of Western Australia and WIRF Patron, the Honourable Kim Beazley AC, and Ms Susie Annus, hosted a special reception In recognition of World Prematurity Day on Wednesday 17 November 2021.

The Governor addressed valued supporters of the Women & Infants Research Foundation and spoke of the imperative to continue to financially support the vital work undertaken by our research staff to ensure improved health outcomes for women and babies.

In response, WIRF’s Chief Scientific Director, Professor John Newnham AM, outlined how our pioneering research and programs to prevent preterm birth which started in WA, have now been rolled out around Australia and are already demonstrating reductions in preterm birth. And that with Federal government funding, our ability to continue this positive trend via education and communication will ramp up.

WIRF Board, staff and valued supporters extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Governor and Ms Annus, and their staff for the honour of being invited to Government House on such a special day in the WIRF calendar.
