Baby Bundles

Our Baby Bundles program provides essential babywear and blankets to mothers and babies in crisis situations.

Baby Bundles

Supporting mothers and babies in crisis situations

More than 6,000 babies are born at King Edward Memorial Hospital each year. Many newborns arrive in an emergency and some without the essential babywear and blankets they need.

Our Baby Bundles program supports Western Australian families in need by providing essential babywear and blankets to babies born prematurely, in emergencies, or to mothers in desperate situations.

Each Baby Bundle is thoughtfully crafted to meet the needs of families in need. A calico backpack is filled with essential items such as:

  • hand-knitted cardigans
  • onesies
  • singlets
  • a toy
  • nappies
  • cotton wraps
  • a colourful blanket or rug

These bundles are gifted to patients in need at King Edward Memorial Hospital through the hospital’s social work team, offering both practical support and emotional comfort.

Each year, the Baby Bundles program supports approximately 700 babies and mothers in crisis situations.

Each Baby Bundle costs around $28 to produce, and we rely on donations and volunteers to continue offering this critical program.

Want to help by knitting or sewing for our Baby Bundles?

Join our network of knitters and sewers to create clothing and blankets for babies in need.

We are extremely grateful to our volunteer knitters and sewers, living all over Western Australia, for the time and effort taken to make baby clothing and blankets.

If you would like to volunteer your time to knit or sew for our Baby Bundles program follow the patterns on this page. These patterns have been approved by healthcare specialists at King Edward Memorial Hospital.

Unfortunately, we cannot use garments made from unapproved patterns in our special care nurseries but are happy to sell them in our hospital shops to raise funds for research.
