Supporting women in crisis situations
Every year many women arrive at King Edward Memorial Hospital in a crisis situation, unexpectedly rushed to hospital with little or no time to prepare, and often from regional and remote areas of Western Australia.
They may stay for weeks or months at a time due to high-risk pregnancies or complex gynaecological conditions including cancer treatments. Some may be victims of domestic violence.
This can be a very desperate, lonely, and isolating time for these women.
Attending the hospital in an emergency situation may mean these women come without the essentials – underwear, basic clothing, toiletries and baby items.
Women’s Care Packages provide women with the essentials they need, such as toiletries, underwear, sanitary items and clothing to get through their stay.
Each care package costs around $95 and includes a bag filled with items such as:

- Lip Balm
- Deodorant
- Hand cream
- Sanitary pads
- Hairbrush
- Toiletry / makeup bag
- Dress / windcheater
- Underwear
- Socks
- Thongs
