About Dr Esther Adama

Senior Lecturer, School of Nursing and Midwifery at Edith Cowan University, Perth, Western Australia

Dr Esther Adama is a passionate child and family health registered nurse with a specialised interest in supporting parents of preterm infants, both in neonatal units and in the community, across developing and developed countries. With a Masters degree in Advanced Nursing, specialising in child and family health, and a PhD in the same field, Dr Adama’s clinical, teaching, and research interests are closely integrated. She is committed to advancing the psychological and physical wellbeing of children and families, and is eager to collaborate and share ideas that foster these outcomes. Her current research focuses on supporting fathers’ mental health in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). While infant mental health is closely linked to that of parents, particularly fathers, most interventions in NICU settings are mother-centred. Dr Adama’s project seeks to develop strategies to support fathers’ mental health, aiming to improve their wellbeing and, by extension, enhance infant mental health and overall family functioning.
