Dr Erin Johnson is a Deputy Chief Scientist at the Women and Infants Research Foundation, where she has worked for the past five years. Passionate about improving outcomes for women and babies, she teaches Women's Health at The University of Western Australia and contributes to a range of research focused on maternal, fetal, and newborn health. Her work has centred on optimising antenatal steroid therapy, improving neonatal ventilation outcomes, and developing an artificial placenta platform to support extremely preterm infants.

About Dr Erin Johnson

Dr Erin Johnson is a perinatal researcher whose work focuses on improving outcomes for mothers and babies affected by preterm birth and other pregnancy complications. Her research spans the development and optimisation of antenatal therapies, neonatal respiratory support, and innovative technologies designed to improve outcomes for extremely preterm infants.

She completed her PhD at The University of Western Australia, where her research focused on optimising antenatal steroid therapy for women at risk of preterm birth. Her work investigated the relationships between steroid dose, fetal exposure, and treatment response, with the aim of identifying strategies that maximise fetal lung maturation while reducing unnecessary exposure and potential harm.

At the Women and Infants Research Foundation, Erin contributes to research focused on understanding and improving outcomes for babies born too soon. Her work spans antenatal therapies, fetal and neonatal physiology, and the development of new approaches to support extremely preterm infants.

In addition to her research activities, Erin is committed to teaching, mentoring, and community engagement, and is passionate about translating scientific discoveries into meaningful improvements in healthcare for women, babies, and their families.
