About Kantarou Sahara
Dr. Kantarou Sahara graduated from the School of Medicine at Tohoku University, Japan, and completed his clinical training in pediatrics before specializing in neonatology at Tohoku University Hospital. Following his training, he worked as a staff neonatologist, providing care for critically ill newborns and preterm infants.
In 2024, Dr. Sahara joined a research team developing an artificial placenta model using fetal sheep. Since 2026, his research at The University of Western Australia has focused on understanding and treating the effects of reduced oxygen supply in babies before birth using artificial placenta technology.
Through WIRF, Kantarou aims to advance our understanding of foetal brain injury and improve outcomes for vulnerable foetuses and newborns through artificial placenta development projects.
