Charlies’ angels boost the outlook for WA newborns

Western Australian families and newborns in need will be the direct beneficiaries of a hugely generous fundraising effort out of Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital.

The Revenue & Clinical Coding Department at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital recently raised and donated $1000 to the Women and Infants Research Foundation which will go towards providing much needed essential babywear and blankets to the state’s youngest residents.

Clinical Coder, Sheena Hickey said each week the Revenue & Clinical Coding Department raises funds as part of a ‘Free Dress Friday’ appeal which is donated to a worthy cause.

“There’s a fantastic level of social responsibility across our departments and the idea that little amounts can ultimately make a big difference is something which has really resonated with our staff.”

“This is the second time we’ve been able to raise and donate to a WA cause. We hope that this donation will continue to enable the fantastic work of WIRF.”

WIRF Chief Operations Director, Deb Portughes said the fact that another medically focussed organisation was independently fundraising for the Foundation was hugely exciting.

“I think this sets a great precedent for philanthropic collaboration because ultimately we are all in the business of optimising health outcomes,” Deb said.

“This donation will enable the creation of 40 Baby Bundles which will make a huge difference for families that arrive in an emergency situation or are disadvantaged.”
